Seminar Description: The full-day seminar begins with a comprehensive review of various anti-avoidance provisions designed to prevent or discourage aggressive tax planning.

Topics covered include the general anti-avoidance rule, shareholder benefit provisions, arm’s length relationships, expense deductibility, inadequate consideration, attribution provisions, stop-loss provisions, surplus stripping, association etc.

Various tax planning strategies are presented that are divided into four main categories; restructuring asset profiles, sale of business, use of partnerships and use of trusts. Factual scenarios are provided in the materials that address objectives, statutory provisions, case law, results and risk analysis.

Participants should have a good knowlwdge of personal and corporate income tax.
