Seminar Description: The objective of this half-day seminar is to look at the requirements as outlined in the CPA Canada Handbook and the Rules of Professional Conduct, and how to apply these standards in public practice on a consistent basis for a compilation engagement.

The seminar material will cover professional judgment issues as to what should be in working paper files, how “association rules” impact these engagements, whether or not the practitioner has to be independent, monthly bookkeeping assignments and information gathering for tax compliance purposes.

Review CPA Canada Handbooksections 9200and AuG-5.

  • Standards set out in the CPA Canada Handbookand the Rules of Professional Conduct
  • Sample compilation file to provide a practical example
  • Appendix—compilation and independence checklists; and other relevant materials of interest to practitioners
  • Miscellaneous topics relating specifically to compilation engagements
  • Who can do compilation engagements
  • What communication issues are relevant
  • How does lack of independence impact these engagements
  • How do the association rules impact these engagements
  • How do the standards impact bookkeeping practices
  • How do the standards impact tax compliance work performed
Pre-requisite: There are no prerequisites for this course.
Who Will Benefit: New and experienced practitioners; and their staff who would like an overview of the practical issues of compilation engagements.
